From Mom:
“During the week of July 11-15, I was making an effort to be the patient of the week at St. Joe’s with three hydration infusions, one CT scan, and a paracentsis — coming to the Short Stay unit for four days out of five.”
Translation: Mom’s latest chemo drug, Etoposide, made her incredibly nauseous, even when accompanied by a strong anti-nausea drug. As you might expect, this impacted Mom’s desire for food or beverages, which lead to her being really dehydrated. In talking to her, it sounds like she felt hung over for about 18 days, while on the drug. She’s stopped taking the drug, and is taking a break to rest and get her strength back.
Interesting side note (at least to me): when talking about how the drug made her feel, I discovered that Mom has only experienced ONE hangover in her life, back in college.

Ferrol hit the nail on the head! MARTY and I agree! Hope taking a break will allow Elizabeth to enjoy the new crop of raspberries and the great culinary treats prepared by Kate & Annie.
It is a sunny Sunday at the lake and our son and his family & guests are taking one last swim before heading home to the work week ahead.
Monty and Donna McAllister are headed over here tomorrow anticipating sun and some fly fishing.
Our best wishes for no more hangovers or trips to the Short Stay Place!
Cheers,
Gail

I’m pretty certain that a hangover isn’t supposed to last that long!! I bet you felt tortured during those 3 weeks! Also, if you’re going to endure a hangover, there should at least be a few margaritas involved!! Well, I hope that you’re feeling much better now, and you’re regaining your strength. You’ve got better things to do than compete for patient of the week!

Not paying attentions lately as I ran around with grandkids, George joining me for Crested Butte, Kim and boys and then Brad and Willy arriving. Sorry your world wasn’t so pleasant, Ibby, but we were thinking of and talking about you fondly. Hope you have had some better days lately. Love, BETSY
