That was my favorite too, Debbie!! Elizabeth, the look on your face is priceless. Adorable. And how old was Uncle Bill when he was flying that plane? I bet it was a trip well worth the spanking!

Hello, Elizabeth,
Wow, did you have braids! I never did and still can’t!
Wondering if Annie and Kate ever had braids??
I loved playing nurse! Remember those nurse and doctor kits? That was my usual Halloween costume as well.
I also read all the Cherry Ames Nurse books as a teenager.
“Back then” girls usually became a nurse, secretary or teacher.

I ran out of room above…..
Elizabeth, do you remember what you would say when people asked, “And what do you want to be when you grow up?”
Thank goodness you became a librarian and art historian who influenced so many with your wit and wisdom.
Love,
Gail

Delightful photos ! The nurse-in-training is especially winsome, and it seems to me that your work with young people as librarian and teacher (and friend) qualifies as a form of “health care.” You were nurturing robust minds among all your students, and I would bet that you are a lasting agent of good in many of their lives.
Hope to see you tomorrow, Elizabeth. love, Pat

So that was the first plane ride. Obviously the spanking didn’t deter you! Ahead lay a lifetime of exotic travel and the beautifully illustrated journals to remind you and to share with grateful friends.

I only visited Buffalo Creek once – I was probably seven or eight years old. But I would recognize it anywhere, even in these old photos! That front porch and the railing was the scene for many, many photographs over the years.
I’m loving the quality of these photos. They (and you) are absolutely gorgeous.
And on a completely unrelated note: thank you for instilling a love of libraries to so many people! I’ve never been happier with a job than I am now that I’m a librarian.
